Dress Code

Black tie. Feel free to take inspiration from the venue and French/European feel.

The venue is an 18th century Bastide and the grounds can be uneven, so please consider your footwear. We’re excited to see our guests all dressed up!

How will we get around?

France has Uber in larger towns, and many of the towns have taxis as well. We’d recommend renting a car if you plan on exploring the greater Provence area. Driving in France isn’t so different from driving in the US, but it would be helpful to research basic driving laws ahead of time.

How should we get to the venue?

We are asking all guests to stay in Lourmarin during the wedding weekend. The town is very small, and all accommodations are a very short walk to the venue! Parking will be available behind the Bastide for anyone who chooses to drive.

Does everyone in France speak English?

Generally, yes! English is more common in the larger cities than in the smaller towns around Provence. Most people speak at least a little English, but some don’t speak any at all. With that in mind, it might be a good idea to brush up on a few French phrases before your trip. However in our experience, we have gotten around perfectly fine just speaking English!

Google has a fantastic translation app!

How to pronounce “Lourmarin”

We have tricky logistics, what should we do?

We understand traveling abroad may come with particular challenges. As you are making your arrangements, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Bride, Groom, or their families for any guidance!

Are there any major cultural differences?

The French may have a reputation of being rude, but that isn’t typically the case! They put a big emphasis on manners, especially in daily interactions. It is customary to greet anyone you come in contact with (shopkeepers, hotel staff, etc) with a “bonjour” during the day or a “bonsoir” at night before continuing the conversation.

Are French weddings different?

Yes and no! There are a lot of similarities. At our wedding, expect the general order of events to be the same as a US wedding. However, the French have a longer dinner and dance much later into the night. Expect a late night, full of fun, on Saturday!

What is the Provence weather like in September?

As the summer comes to a close, Provence can still experience some warm days (80-90F). However, the odd rainy day can come up from time to time..
